3K Inpatient Stepdown Unit Nurse

Duties:

RN 3K Inpatient Step Down Unit

 

We are seeking nurses who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.  3K is a 21 bed medical stepdown unit from ICU to acute medicine or surgery. The purpose of the unit is to provide nursing care to veterans experiencing acute medical/surgical problems; or patients requiring close 24/7 observation, skilled nursing care,  cardiac monitoring, continuous cardiac IV medications, insulin drips, close respiratory monitoring and specialized procedures. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • providing prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. 
  • documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition;
  • collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes;
  • providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems;
  • interpretation of EKG monitored patients/ACLS for all RN's;
  • performing oral/nasotracheal suctioning;
  • managing gastric, intestinal, and/or percutaneous drainage and feeding tubes;
  • interpreting Continuous Oximetry patients;
  • inserting and/or care of urinary drainage devices and care (condom catheters, intermittent catheters, foley catheters, suprapubic catheters, nephrostomy tubes);
  • utilizing bladderscaner for urinary retention assessment;
  • applying and managing pneumatic sequential compression devices;
  • providing ostomy care;
  • using doppler ultra sound for vascular assessment;
  • managing chest/mediastinal tubes;
  • managing continuous and intermittent bladder irrigations;
  • teaching pre- and post-op procedures
  • assessing IV lines (pheripherial, central).

 

Work Schedule: Shift, weekend and holiday rotation is required. Day/Evening rotation with 8 hour shifts

Preferred Experience: 1-2 years of acute care and/or telemetry nursing experience is preferred
