Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) - Stroke Associate Director
Houston, TX
Duties:

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) - Associate Director Stroke Center for the Neurology Care Line (NCL) provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes and/or systems, improving outcomes at the program or service level at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC).  The ANP works in collaboration with Stroke Center Leadership and the inter-professional health care team to identify and implement improvement strategies based on current clinical practice guidelines, expert census, patient preferences and regulatory standards.  The ANP duties include the following but are not limited to:

·  Adheres to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice

·  Oversight of the requirements to maintain national certification of the MEDVAMC Stroke Center and responsibilities required by other national, state and local agencies including Houston and Texas-wide stroke systems of care legislation.

·  Attends or sends an alternate to monthly Houston SETRAC Stroke committee meetings representing the MEDVAMC. 

·  Demonstrates leadership when providing nursing care or developing programs which will improve the delivery of nursing care

·  To monitor facility wide performance, maintaining relationships with local, state and national organizations that provide oversight of Stroke programs. 

·  Interacts with local, state and national stroke-related education and research programs including nursing research within the VA.  

·  Functions in an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) role as Nurse Practitioner / Clinical Nurse Specialist

·  Maintains a secondary prevention stroke clinic. Interacts with the multi-disciplinary stroke providers to optimize the care of the stroke patient.

·  Leads ongoing quality improvement initiatives for stroke care and thrombolytic administration.

·  Demonstrates competencies specific to Advance Practice Nurse III
