Assistant Nurse Manager (Medicine Clinic)

Duties:

The Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center is actively recruiting for an Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for the Medicine Specialty Clinics.  The incumbent is a working ANM in the clinical arena when and where needed. As a member of the Acute Hospital Team, the incumbent interacts with Veterans, family members, and an interdisciplinary team of professionals. As a registered nurse, the Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for planning, administering and directing nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in various medicine specialty areas. The incumbent executes position responsibilities that demonstrate a high level of clinical leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of complex client care. In addition, he/she applies skills necessary to identify, coordinate, and/or identify discipline-specific education, as well as training in leadership, professional staff development and emerging needs, to all levels of staff assigned.  The incumbent will assist in education and training of personnel, their attendance/participation in all annual mandatory training, as well as staff educational activities required to meet the needs of patients requiring various specialty services. The incumbent will assist in evaluation of  population-based programs of care by integrating nursing interventions and medical treatments as appropriate to enhance patient outcomes in a cost-effective manner. Additionally, they will serve as a leader, mentor, and change agent in advancing the practice of nursing to achieve quality, cost-effective patient outcomes within the specialty population and as appropriate across populations. The incumbent also is responsible for leading and/or participating in multidisciplinary groups that design and implement innovative alternative solutions to address system problems or patient care issues occurring across the full continuum of care.   The incumbent will assist the Clinical Nurse Manager in  developing and providing mandatory and need-specific training competencies for other staff working in extended care/ancillary areas as indicated, coordinate outpatient clinic services, and oversee, and assist with direct patient care.  Through coordination and collaboration with other medical center personnel, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care and educational programs for staff which comply with medical center policies and external accreditation organization standards.  Assists in development and implementation of unit and environmental policies, procedures and systems within areas of responsibility.  The Assistant Nurse Manager is a supervisor and provides oversight for, staffing, counseling and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Nurse Manager. He/she acts as the Nurse Manager in the Nurse Manager's absence. He/she must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible to ensure that the highest possible quality of care is achieved and that a safe, therapeutic environment is provided. He/she is administratively responsible to the Nurse Manager and responsible for other team members, i.e. RN, LPN, NA. Performs other related duties as required by Nurse Manager.

Highly Desirable Preferred Education/Experience:  BSN or Master's Degree in Nursing OR related field strongly preferred; Minimum 5 years professional nursing experience with progressive leadership and administrative responsibilities AND Knowledge of Cardiology, Neurology, Dermatology, Endoscopy, Rheumatology, Infectious Disease and Pain preferred AND Previous experience as a Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, Program Coordinator and/or General Nursing Supervision strongly preferred.

Work Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm Tour of duty is subject to change based on agency needs.
