Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive

Duties:

Duties

The Associate Director for Patient Care Services (Nurse Executive) is a key member of the executive senior management team. S/he participates in executive strategic planning, organizational assessment, and program development. The incumbent fully participates in upper-level management decisions and other hospital administration issues and is a member of all health care system-level Councils and Committees that govern and influence the operations of the Health Care System. The incumbent collaborates with other executives to ensure that policies and practices promote optimum patient care outcomes, safety, satisfaction, and efficiency and provides leadership in the quality and effectiveness of clinical programs under his/her jurisdiction. The incumbent serves as the Chief Nurse Executive, directs the practice of nursing and allied health, and establishes nursing and clinical standards throughout the Health Care System. Through appropriate expert consultation, provides direction to all other Patient Services personnel and programs including Chaplain Service, Sterile Processing Services, Nutrition and Food Service, and Telehealth.  Direct oversight of nursing staff includes all inpatient medical-surgical, ICU, and mental health units, community living center, outpatient operative care, primary and specialty clinics, the emergency department, CITC, and ten community based outpatient clinics.  S/he incorporates the principles and practices of performance improvement, system redesign, and continuous survey readiness at all levels within the organization. S/he sets expectations, develops plans, and manages processes to assess, improve, and maintain quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care provided. S/he has clinical responsibility for all nursing practice and sets and maintains standards of care, nursing policies and operating procedures, and a community of professional practice across the organization. The incumbent is the catalyst for the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals.  S/he is responsible for ensuring, in collaboration with clinical service chiefs and service lines, that nurses perform their duties in a manner consistent with the scope of practice approved by their state board of nursing, regulatory agencies, and VHA and VA policies. S/he champions a high reliability organization with a culture of safety founded on a systems approach to developing health care solutions based on prevention, not punishment, with collective mindfulness.  The incumbent is administratively available twenty-four hours daily.

 

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
