Position description

The Data Specialist II works collaboratively in a team structure to protect, manage and report data related to strategic, administrative, educational, quality, regulatory and clinical measurement through vended and locally developed applications. Develops and implements standard operating procedures for managing and auditing security to ensure data are protected and handled appropriately. Responsible for the development and management of multiple security models including intranet, LAN and assigned applications for approximately 6,000 staff. Performs routine application maintenance, processes data updates and provides technical support for designated applications. Develops Knowledge Base for supported applications to be used as references by the Help Desk to answer common problems and resolves ServiceNow tickets within a timely manner. Validates and corrects data transactions as required. Develops and implements scripts for application quality assurance testing. Writes and executes highly complex database queries using SQL code and available tools and develops reports for dissemination in Rochester and other designated sites using institutionally approved business intelligence software, Learning Management. May be working on multiple projects at one time, stressing a customer-focused approach that includes consistent and timely communication.

The primary focus for this position is to provide application support for EpicCARE Link and other applications that support our Care Management staff.


Bachelor's degree in business, information technology or health care related field with a minimum of three years experience in query and report writing and creating graphical representations of data. Will consider an associate's degree with five or more years of experience in report development using business intelligence analytic tools at Mayo Clinic. Three years' experience using the following productivity and report writing tools: Microsoft Business Intelligence tools, Business Objects tools, and Crystal Reports. Experience using SQL code to write database queries.

Demonstrated skillful application of analytical and problem solving methodologies. Demonstrated accuracy in analyzing and reporting information. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with others to accomplish goals through collaboration and coordination. Ability to organize and prioritize projects and use of time.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.  The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $1,987.20, based on a full-time position.
