Director of Trauma Services – Swedish Medical Center


Position Summary: 
Coordinates outreach activities for key Swedish Medical Center services, including but not limited to Trauma, Emergency Services, Neurosciences, Pediatrics, Surgical Services, Cardiology and Oncology. Schedules and coordinates site visits to rural communities and coordinates CME programs. Represents SMC at conferences and other vendor sites as appropriate. Coordinates appropriate conferences. Cultivates and maintains relationships with physicians and facilities. Formulates business development strategies. Facilitates the on call referral system including identification of outreach patients, coordinating patient follow up, daily patient/family rounds, and problem solving issues. Coordinates with system outreach activities. 

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current Colorado RN Licensure , TNCC provider status desired.  
Education: BSN or Bachelor’s Degree required , Masters preferred.  
Experience: Prefer experience as a Trauma Coordinator. If none, must have three years recent (within past four years) Emergency Department or Critical Care experience, preferably in a trauma center. Experience with Quality Improvement desired.   
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must have effective verbal communication skills in order to interact in a clear, concise manner with staff, physicians, and administration. Computer skills to include data entry, reporting, and word processing. Typing skills sufficient to complete the job in a timely manner. Must be skilled in time management in order to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks. Must be able to analyze charts to evaluate patient care and review for compliance with trauma standards. Knowledge and experience with ICD-10 and AIS scoring tools is desirable.

Degree of Supervision Required: Minimal supervision: Individual proceeds on own initiative in compliance with policies, procedures, and practices prescribed by Trauma Rules and Regulations and immediate supervisor. Works closely with the Trauma Medical Director and physicians taking trauma call for the service. Coordinates chart abstracting and data entry with the trauma registrar or data specialist and others in the department.

Orientation Period: Minimum of 2 weeks contingent upon experience. Extensive orientation may be required and will be determined by Department Director/designee.
