Licensed Practical Nurse (Specialty Clinics)
Portland, OR

The Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) assigned to the VA Portland Health Care System Specialty Care Clinics, under the Division of Hospital and Specialty Medicine, provides outpatient clinical services for the subspecialties of Medicine, Surgery, and Neurology. The LPN/LVN functions as a team member under the guidance of the Registered Nurse. The incumbent is adaptable and functions with minimal direction with the ability to prioritize and adjust care in response to clinic flow needs.  The LPN/LVN performs patient centered care to Veterans throughout the lifespan, completes clinical reminders and medication reconciliation, and provides medical assistive care and administration support when needed.  The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to observe, identify and respond to the patient's needs for nursing care recognizing deviations from normal.  Nursing activities include but are not limited to medication administration, wound care treatments, home meter downloading, urologic procedures, suture and staple removal, capillary blood glucose testing, equipment assisted care, electrocardiograms, cast removal, dermatological procedures, and a use of safe patient handling equipment. He/she is responsible for patient education and documentation. The incumbent will deploy good customer service and active listening and will also engage in rapport building, limit setting, and de-escalation as applicable. The Specialty Care LPN/LVN must demonstrate flexibility and will be expected to work in multiple clinics and areas with multiple services on a daily basis.


WORK SCHEDULE: Variable Hours Monday-Friday between 0700-1900

NOTE:  The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-6.  The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-3 to GS-6.

NOTE:  The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate's education and experience and recommend the step at which the candidate will be placed in that specific grade.  The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.
