The James J. Peters VA Medical Center, Bronx VAMC affiliated with the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine (NYC), numerous Nursing Academic Affiliations and the Hospital for Special Surgery, is located in the NW Bronx on a self-contained campus easily accessible by car (free parking for eligible employees) and public transportation.


We are currently recruiting for 1- FULL TIME Nurse Practitioner VN-610, for the Community Living Center for the Extended Care Program.


1st Area of Consideration is Current Permanent VA Employees

Tour of Duty: Monday through Friday 7:30am- 4:30pm, Rotating Weekends and Holidays (on call on rotating schedule)


NOTE: NP Certification specialty must be in Geriatrics/Gerontology, Adult, or Family


Preferred Qualifications: MSN with experience with at least one year experience treating the Geriatric Population; Previous Nursing Home experience is preferred.


The Nurse Practitioner will be working as an independent provider primarily in the Community Living Center. The Nurse Practitioner has the advanced knowledge and skills required to manage clinically complex patients admitted to the Community Living Center (CLC) which also houses a Ventilator Unit. The NP will be able to demonstrate a high level of autonomy with expert skills in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical and psychosocial conditions in the admitted individuals and their families. The CLC NP is able to synthesize complex data to formulate decisions and plans that optimize health, promote wellness, manage illness, prevent complications and secondary disabilities, maximize function, and minimize disabilities. The CLC NP will be able to integrate education, research, and consultation into their role and function in a collaborative relationship with physicians, consultants, nursing peers, the interdisciplinary team, and others in the coordination of care and safe discharge planning of the residents assigned to them. The CLC NP scope of practice includes obtaining medical histories, perform comprehensive physical examinations, outline resident centered treatment plans, diagnose, prescribe clinical interventions and order medications and interpret diagnostic tests (blood work, EKG’s, x-rays). Tour of duties includes weekends and holidays as well as on call on a rotating schedule.
