The James J. Peters VA Medical Center, Bronx VAMC is affiliated with the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine (NYC), numerous Nursing Academic Affiliations and the Hospital for Special Surgery, and Columbia University. The hospital has a professional practice model and shared governance. It is located in the NW Bronx on a self-contained campus easily accessible by car (free parking for eligible employees) or public transportation subsidy if qualified. The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is seeking a highly qualified FEE BASIS Nurse Practitioner to provide Compensation and Pension (C&P) exams in our Administrative Medicine Department. The incumbent will be expected to perform Compensation and Pension exams involving general medicine and specialties including Neurology, ENT, GYN, Orthopedics and Urology. The incumbent will be required to review electronic medical records, perform histories and physicals and review laboratory, radiology and any other special studies. The incumbent should have experience with SHA (separation health assessment), IDES (Integrated Disability Evaluation System) and Gulf War exams. Desired training in VA Compensation and a minimum of 1 year experience in the field preferred. Applicants must have the following qualifications in order to be considered: Master’s Degree (MSN) from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE; Current, unrestricted RN and Nurse Practitioner license issued by any U.S. State; Current Nurse Practitioner Certification from the American Nurses Association (ANA) or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty of Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner. Physical Requirements include: repeat bending, moderate carrying, pushing, and use of fingers, walking and standing. Compensation is $85 per patient exam. English language proficiency and U.S. Citizenship required.
