Job Details

The Wound Care NP will serve as consulting provider of wound, skin and ostomy care services. The Wound Care NP will participate in development of interdisciplinary/programmatic quality improvement plan by identifying areas for review, assisting with data collection, and establishment and implementation of corrective actions.. The Wound Care NP will lead and evaluate nursing practices and stay current on all requirements necessary for WOCN nursing staff.

The Wound Nurse Practitioner will provide leadership for development of evidence-based policy, procedure, and protocol related to clinical program specific to specialty. The Wound Ostomy Nurse Practitioner will initiate and participate in research projects, performance improvement teams and other work groups as appropriate.

The Wound Care NP, with collaboration of a physician, will serve as clinical expert in wound care management for patients, their families, and the staff; will provide leadership and guidance through consultation in Wound and Ostomy Nursing according to the standards of the WOCN Society

The Wound Care NP will report to both the Chief of Plastic Surgery and the Specialty Care Clinical Practice Manager (an APRN). The Wound Ostomy NP will help the hospital serve a critical role improving to improve the health of the veteran community.


  • Must have Master’s degree or Doctoral degree with national certification (ANCC or AANP) as an Adult/Geriatric or Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must have current state NP license in a state that permits licensed independent practice (LIP) and allows prescriptive privileges for legend drugs & supplies, and controlled substances.
  • Certification and licensure must be maintained and renewed when necessary. .
  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • Requires national certification in Wound & Ostomy, or candidate must be currently board-eligible for this examination. If board-eligible, all requirements for Wound –Ostomy certification must be completed within the first year of employment.
