Position description

Performs delegated tasks of patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Utilizes skills which she/he has obtained in educational programs and/or orientation and has demonstrated competency. Participates actively a member of the patient care team.




Qualifications

Requires a High School Diploma or GED.

The following may be accepted for Education/Experience requirements:

EMT or Paramedic certification Corpsman or Medic experience in the military

CNA or PCT training program, or completion of "fundamentals" as a nursing student, or six months acute care (bedside) experience.




Additional qualifications

COMPETENCY: Critical Care

1. Maintains yearly BLS certification.

2. Scores greater than 80% on math test.

3. Demonstrates age related competency by completion of SLP and post test.

Cardiovascular

1. Obtains BLS-C certification.

2. Demonstrates appropriate working knowledge of specialty equipment and returns demo to RN.

3. Attends two clinical oriented educational programs.

4. Demonstrates age related competency by completion of SLP and post test. Progressive Care

1. Obtains BLS-C certification.

2. Demonstrates appropriate working knowledge of specialty equipment such as electrode placement and telemetry implementation.

3. Attends two clinical oriented educational programs one of which will pertain to the gerontology patient.

4. Accurately documents I&O with a score of 80% on test.

5. Accurately documents restraint use/fall precautions with a score of 80% on test.

Surgical/Plastics

1. Obtains BLS-C certification.

2. Demonstrates appropriate working knowledge of Varidyne Drains and feeding pump (via return demonstration to RN).

3. Attends two clinical oriented educational programs/in-services one of which will pertain to the gerontology patient.

4. Accurately documents I & O with a score of 80% on test; to include one post-op and one transfer patient.

5. Demonstrates ability to accurately document with a score of 80% on test; to include a patient in restraints.



JOB KNOWLEDGE: Patient care skills, knowledge of infection control and safety procedures, medical terminology, strong verbal and written communication skills. ADDL CONSIDERATIONS: Requires independent judgment, a high level of motivation, accountability, flexibility, interest in patient care, and compassion for people.
