Responsibilities: The Employee and Occupational Health Nurse works with employees/employer to provide safe and quality medical care. The occupational health nurse uses a systematic process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation to develop a plan of care for our patient population. Provides case management as needed. Monitors data concerning injury/illness to direct employees/employer toward a safer place to work. Maintains accurate and confidential records. Occupational Health Nurse works to ensure a safe workforce and workplace. Conducts health screening for new employee candidates. Assist the employer in monitoring the work environment to assure the safety of workers and all others. Coordinates surveillance programs for occupations at increased risk for exposure. Fosters institutional compliance with laws, regulations and standards governing health and safety. Coordinates with organizational workgroups to create, organize and implement Emergency Management Procedures. Occupational Health Nurse promotes healthy living and injury/illness prevention strategies. Promotes disease prevention through vaccination programs. Assists the Health Promotion staff in the planning and implementation of health and wellness activities. Identifies education and training program services through evaluation of data and needs assessments. (008179/008180)

Qualifications: Student or Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN- formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required.

All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after September 1, 2010, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

Additional Qualifications: Occupational and Case Management experience required as well as knowledge of ADH, FMLA, and Workman’s Compensation. Current knowledge of laws and regulations that govern occupational and environmental health and safety preferred. 3-5 years current applicable RN experience preferred. Attention to detail in decision making and documentation strongly preferred. Excellent customer service skills strongly preferred. Case Management experience preferred. Baccalaureate degree preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills. Current knowledge of laws and regulations that govern occupational and environmental health and safety.

License or Certification: Must obtain prior to start date:

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Military Training Network
Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Exemption Status: Non-exempt
Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $28.22 per hour.
Hours/Pay Period: 72 hours per 2 week pay period
Schedule Details:
Monday – Friday; 8-hour day shifts – NOT NEGOTIABLE
