Registered Nurse (Emergency Room)
Shreveport, LA
Duties:

The Emergency Room RN is an integral member of Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, Shreveport, LA. The Registered Nurse will place the care and welfare of the Veteran first. The applicants should be highly skilled in all areas of adult medical and psychological emergent care, have expert critical thinking skills, and be a team player. The preferred candidate will be certified in emergency room nursing. 

            · Triage in a safe/timely manner implementing and adhering to all policies and procedures.

· Able to manage and deliver care for complex patient situations incorporating age specific considerations.

· May function in team leader or charge nurse role.

· Implement the nursing process to include performing physical and psychosocial assessments; participation in the development, review and ongoing revision of an interdisciplinary plan of care to reflect the changing needs of the patient.

· Completes assessment in required time frame and identifies priority needs.

· Assesses for subtle changes in patient's condition that indicates an impending emergency and takes appropriate action.

· Maintains environmental safety by adhering to VAMC policies.

· Participates in established quality improvement activities.

· Work practice each day incorporates all of the following: OSHA; HIPPA; Joint Commission Standards, VAMC policies and procedures; EEO; Safety; Infection Control; Patient Education; Nursing Research; Ethics; Risk Management; Maintenance of Required Education.

· Provide individualized patient/family and group education.

· Implements ongoing educational plan to support own professional development.

· Provide excellent customer service and utilizing effective communication skills to promote the team concept in the delivery of patient care. 

Tour of Duty:  Rotating tours to include weekends, and holidays. 

This position reports directly to the Nurse Manager, Emergency Room.
