Responsibilities: The Registered Nurse in Enhanced Critical Care (eRN) is responsible for monitoring critically ill patients at external facilities. The eRN works from an operations center on Eisenberg 10-5 with other critical care nurses, intensivists, and NP/PA staff. Together, this team utilizes monitoring systems and audio/video technology to partner with bedside staff at remote locations. The eRN is accountable for: assessing and reviewing patient data, escalating issues to providers, consulting with bedside ICU staff, collaborating with clinicians to carry out plans of care, assisting bedside clinicians with implementation of best practices, mentoring new staff, and providing their expertise to bedside staff when needed. Minimum 3-5 years of adult ICU experience within the last 5 years is required.

In order to maintain clinical competence and expertise eRN staff will also have scheduled time provide direct patient care. For applicants coming from Mayo Rochester ICUs this patient care time will be prioritized to the ICU they transfer from. External applicants will train into a clinical area to meet this expectation. Qualifications: Student or Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN- formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required.

All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after September 1, 2010, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

AD/DIP/Baccalaureate/Master degree RN currently employed for a minimum of three years within the past five years in an Adult ICU setting is required.

Additional Qualifications: Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

License or Certification: Must obtain prior to start date:

Employee must possess current RN license to practice in Minnesota and must maintain multistate licensure as needed. Current BLS and ACLS certification required prior to employment. RN will be required to obtain and maintain CCRN or CCRN-E certification within the first year of employment and throughout duration of employment in the eICU.

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Military Training Network

Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Exemption Status: Non-exempt
Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $32.08 per hour.
Hours/Pay Period: 48-72 hours per 2 week pay period
Schedule Details: Sunday – Saturday; Day/Nights, 12-hour shifts – NOT NEGOTIABLE
Weekend Schedule: Every third weekend – NOT NEGOTIABLE
