Responsibilities:

The Home Dialysis RN will provide training and support to dialysis staff and patients within the Mayo Clinic Dialysis System that will allow patients the ability to have dialysis in their home. This will encompass both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatment options. The RN will coordinate care plan management for the Home Dialysis patient population. This includes (but is not limited to): maintenance of monthly/quarterly care requirements through clinic visits, phone calls and/or video visits; hands-on education with patients for both modalities utilizing technical equipment; assessment and intervention of dialysis related signs and symptoms; and monitoring/review of quality metrics. This RN will also provide periodic resource coverage for dialysis services in collaboration with other nursing team members. This role includes extensive written and verbal communication with a large interdisciplinary team in supporting home dialysis patients. The Home Dialysis RN must demonstrate initiative and autonomy in meeting patient needs independently.

The Registered Nurse is accountable for the delivery of direct patient care including patient education and the management of telephone triage in ambulatory and/or hospital based procedure settings. The RN will function within the Mayo Nursing Care Model (http://mayoweb.mayo.edu/nurs-gen/care-model.htm), which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for patients. The ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and the AAACN Ambulatory Care Nursing Administration and Practice Standards provide a basis for the practice of the registered nurse in the ambulatory setting. The Registered Nurse (RN) supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN must possess excellent communication skills, be skillful in mentoring and teaching, and actively participate on committees or projects. In the Charge Nurse role, the RN will act as the clinical resource person in their work area for the length of time they are on duty. They will assure the patient care provided during the shift they work is organized and carried out in a safe, efficient manner. (008181)



Qualifications: The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. (008181)

Additional Qualifications: One year of dialysis RN experienced required. Home dialysis experience preferred. BSN and minimum of two years previous RN experience preferred. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, excellent critical thinking skills, and attention to detail. Ability to work with various electronic medical record resources, as well as other computer programs (e.g. Excel).

License or Certification: Valid driver’s license is required to conduct home visits with patients. Multi-state licensure or ability to obtain RN licensure in WI/IA/MN is required.

Must obtain prior to start date:

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

We will only accept certificates of course completion from the following providers:
  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Military Training Network

Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $29.95 per hour.
Hours/Pay Period: 80 hours per 2 week pay period
Schedule Details: Monday through Friday, mostly 8 hour days with flexibility expected to meet patient needs as they arise – NOT NEGOTIABLE
Weekend Schedule: No weekends
