Position description

The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

​This RN position will provide nursing support to the various subdivisions of Outpatient Infectious Diseases including the Travel Clinic, the Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) Clinic, and the HIV/Continuity Clinic.
The Travel Clinic provides adult and pediatric patients with education and immunizations and/or medications recommended for international travel. Excellent communication, assessment and patient education skills are required.

The OPAT Clinic meets a critical need for Infectious Disease patients following dismissal from the hospital. This position supports the Infectious Disease practice by managing, monitoring, and addressing lab/culture results and protecting patient safety post-dismissal.




Qualifications

Student or graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN- formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required.

All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after September 1, 2010, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.





Additional qualifications

​Prefer a minimum of two years current RN experience. BSN degree preferred. Knowledge of MICS, Synthesis, VACPRO, and CDM reporting preferred. Applicants must exemplify the ability to do the following: manage and monitor lab/culture results; share test results with patients; manage care and follow-up with dismissed patients; triage and return patient phone calls; manage both internal and external patient data; function in a protocol driven environment. Strong teamwork, organizational and communication skills required.




License or certification

Current RN license by applicable state requirements. Arizona and Florida - Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Midwest - Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $28.22 per hour.
