Position description

The role of the Pediatric Cardiology Ambulatory RN is to focus on the care of complex pediatric patients and families. The ambulatory RN will serve as the point of contact for patients and families who are followed in the cardiology division. The nurse reviews patient’s records and documents significant findings and events to share with physicians prior to patients appointments. The RN is also responsible for implementing treatment plans and monitoring adherence, providing direct patient care and education, triaging phone calls, and facilitating communication across providers, settings, and caregivers. The nurse coverage includes clinical needs, patient education, and triage. The RN also provides emotional support and educational needs of patients and families.




Qualifications

Student or Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN- formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required. If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is required or, effective October 1st, 2017 one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.


All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after September 1, 2010, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.




Additional qualifications

A minimum of 2 years nursing experience. Pediatric experience preferred - knowledge of pediatric population characteristics and desired outcomes. Candidates must be able to work independently alongside a team of physicians within the Pediatric Cardiology Division. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to use data for trend analysis and decision making.




License or certification

Must obtain prior to start date:

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

We will only accept certificates of course completion from the following providers:
  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Military Training Network
Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $28.78 per hour.
