Position description

The RN Resource Specialist is responsible for partnering with local and regional Surgical and Nursing leadership to coordinate on-site evaluation of surgical policies and procedures related to surgical nursing practice. This role will be responsible to evaluate all quality assurance programs established by Mayo Clinic and regulatory agencies. The RN Resource Specialist collaborates in auditing current processes against industry standards, providing summarized reporting of results, and developing recommendations based on audit results. The RN Resource Specialist will assist as needed in training regarding regulatory compliance and quality. In addition, this role will be responsible for providing meaningful information to local and regional Surgical and Nursing leadership for decision-making. The RN Resource Specialist develops and maintains effective relationships with a variety of individuals throughout the institution to fulfill job responsibilities.


Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited program with 7 years’ Operating Room experience; or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from ACEN accredited program with 4 years of Operating Room experience. Must be willing and able to travel on a regular basis; able to drive and/or ride in a car for several hours at a time. Rochester campus: All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date after September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2014 must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 6 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date. All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of September 1, 2014 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.

Additional qualifications

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred. At least 2 years of formal or informal leadership experience, including involvement in committees preferred.At least 2 years of experience in quality improvement initiatives, including report preparation and formulating recommendations preferred. Program management or project coordination experience. Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge and experience with research processes.

Sterilization Certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD preferred; alternatively, must acquire within 2 years of start date.

License or certification

Valid Minnesota Driver's License.

Current Minnesota RN license or current license deemed acceptable by the Minnesota State Board of Nursing.

Basic Life Support Certification, we will only accept certificates of course completion from the following providers:
  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Military Training Network
Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.  The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $2,832.80, based on a full-time position.
