About the Atlanta VA Medical Center: The Atlanta VA Medical Center has 405 authorized inpatient beds (273 in the hospital, 120 Community Living Center, and 12 PRRTP) and is a tertiary care facility classified as a Complexity Level 1A facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services complete with state-of-the-art technology, education, and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through emergency medicine, primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in the areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. The Atlanta VA Medical Center is part of the VA Southeast Network (VISN 7), which includes facilities in Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. The Atlanta VA Medical Center Community Living Center serves metro Atlanta and includes extended care rehabilitation, psycho-geriatric care, and general long term care. The facility also serves as a prosthetics treatment center, fabricating and supplying mechanical devices such as artificial limbs for patients within the states of Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Duties

The Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruitingfor a full-time Registered Nurse for the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI)Program. The Nurse care manager in PCMHI will be responsible for monitoring patients, providing education and support, influencing adherence to guidelines by providing "on-time, on-target" information to primary care physicians, and collaboratively making appropriate care decisions. Additional duties involve coordination of care with integrated behavior health co-located staff and the rest of the primary care team, and is performed primarily via telephone contact, but may include use of other clinical technologies.

Tour of Duty: Tour of duty will be a fill-time Day Shift.

    • BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

      • U.S. Citizenship. Non-Citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

      Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required

      Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

      o The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6).

      In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

      NOTE: Most individuals admitted as permanent residents or adjusting to permanent resident status as registered nurses on or after December 14, 1998, for the purpose of working as a registered nurse, must meet the certification requirements in Section 343 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (Pub. L. 104-208, September 30, 1996). This certification involves a review of the alien's education, training, license(s), and experience, verification that the alien possess an acceptable level of competence in written and oral English, and a requirement that the individual has passed either the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) Qualifying Examination or the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. examination, the NCLEX-RN. For additional information see Pub. L. 104-208, 63 Federal Register 55007-55012, dated October 14, 1998, and the CGFNS web site.

      Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

      EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

      Nurse I Level I An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.

      Nurse I Level II An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in nursing (BSN) and no experience.

      Nurse I Level III An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2 3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

      Nurse II A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or AND or diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of experience or a Master's degree in nursing or a related filed with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursingmeets basic requirements for appointment and has Doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

      Nurse III Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of experience or a Doctoral degree in nursing or related filed and approximately 2-3 years of experience.

      Preferred Characteristics

      1. Three years of full-time experience as a licensed professional RN.

      2. Currently practicing in a nursing clinical area.

      3. Previous home health experience. Two years recent experience in long term care, rehabilitation, skilled nursingfacility, Palliative and/or Hospice Care.

      4. Must have valid driver's license. May involve working virtually from home.

      Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

      GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

      Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.

      The criteria are as follows:

      Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization;

      Professional Development: performance, education/career development;

      Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality;

      Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
