RN - Assistant Nurse Manager (Acute Care Med/Surg Unit 4C)
Dallas, TX

There is a vacancy for a Float Assistant Nurse Manager Position at Dallas VA for 4C Med/Surg unit. The primary shift is evening and rotating tours of nights/weekend are required.  Incumbent will assist with the day to day operations of the unit, serve as a primary charge nurse as needed, and work collaboratively with the nurse manager in clinical and administrative duties (i.e. Performance / Process Improvement activities, special programs, policies and procedures, time schedules) and assist the Staff Development Specialist with staff education (i.e. orientation, annual review, competencies etc.). 

 The following is a list of skills and characteristics that will be required and / or expected if assigned to this role:




a.                   Open to all Registered Nurses, must have graduated from an ACEN or CCNE accredited Nursing program and a BSN is preferred.


b.                  One year of nursing experience required.  Two years are preferred or leadership experience in another career field.

c.                   Experience in functioning as charge nurse or leadership role required.

d.                  Demonstrated ability to communicate well with staff of all levels.

e.                   Excellent attendance and flexibility in scheduling is necessary.

f.                    Assist with coordination of training and education for all nursing staff positions.

g.                  Knowledge of facility policies / procedures and ability to teach and enforce. May serve on a Nursing Service Council.

h.                  Collaborate with the employee and Nurse Manager in the evaluation process of employees. 

i.                    Prepare time schedules and submit to Nurse Manager for review and approval.

j.                    Collect data for quarterly reports on process improvement activity and program evaluations (i.e. wound care, infection control, patient complaints, medication errors, equipment location, etc.). 

k.                  Ensure that medical records are maintained current and complete by monitoring the Nursing Service documentation to verify the entries are descriptive of care rendered and all physician orders have been properly carried out.

l.                    Plan, coordinate, and utilize available staff to accomplish patient care workload.

m.                Demonstrates, promotes, creates and ensures a culturally diverse workforce in which the values and needs of all individuals are respected.

n.                  ACLS required (All Med- Surg is moving to Med/Tele)




***Must be certified in BLS and ACLS***


Tour of duty: Primary shift is evening and rotating tours of nights/weekends are REQUIRED.
