Duties:

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

The Quality Improvement (QI) Specialist will be responsible for directing and coordinating the administrative, operational, and planning activities for the Neurology Service quality improvement program.  This includes authoring and developing policies, and monitoring program compliance with VHA policy/directive, Joint Commission standards, and other regulatory agency requirements.

The QI Specialist will independently identify areas for improvements and lead interdisciplinary teams to develop and maintain safe, high quality health care delivery.  He/she must have the ability to analyze complex and critical data to identify trends and issues of concern.

The QI Specialist will facilitate improvement projects and interdisciplinary teams and track outcome measures to ensure sustainment of improvement efforts.

The QI Specialist will work with staff to identify solutions for identified system and process issues.  The QI Specialist will systematically evaluate current practices, such as high risk indicators, patient safety report patterns, and stakeholders feedback to formulate recommendations for improvements.

The QI Specialist will provide direct service and consultation to organizational leaders and staff at levels of the organization for assessing and improving various aspects of patient care and administrative services.

The QI Specialist role requires current knowledge and basic principles and practices related to the management of health care delivery systems.  A key aspect of the role will be tracking, analyzing, and trending activities and data in patient care and organizational functions.  Demonstration of strong skills in managing and actively promoting organizational change is imperative.

The QI Specialist will be the resource person and serve as consultant for problem solving in organizational issues.  Responsibilities will include independently coordinating actions related to the quality management program.  This position requires a high degree of responsibility, independence, and self-motivation.
