RN - Sterile Processing Service - Educator
Dallas, TX

There is a vacancy available within the Dallas Sterile Processing Service (SPS) at the VA North Texas Health Care System as an Educator for the unit. This is a full-time position, which requires a 40-hour work week. Some flexibility in duty hours may be required to cover 24-hour operation.

The incumbent will communicate with key support staff regarding processing, inspecting, maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments and equipment.

Adheres to established policies, standards of care, standards of practice, and reports directly to the SPS service chief.



a.   RN required, BSN preferred, from a program accredited by the National League of Nursing or the AACN.

b.    Preferred experience in Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room.

c.     Ability to work independently and make highly competent professional judgments and decisions, as well as evidence of solid clinical acumen.

d.    Documented evidence of strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

e.    Documented evidence of ability to demonstrate leadership to motivate others to adopt innovative practices in an interdisciplinary setting.

f.      Preferred experience with surgical instruments and equipment.

g.    Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.

h.    Documented evidence of education skills.

i.      Documented evidence of excellent time and attendance required.


Provide Quality Assurance oversight and education to staff members of all levels in the SPS department. This includes:


a.  Ability to function autonomously in a self-directed role.

b.  Effective communication skill and tact in dealing with patients, staff, and wide range of professionals.

c.  Maintaining 5 part folders for Sterile Processing staff.

c.  Serves as a liaison between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing

d.  Provides training to Operating Room and SPS staff on new and emerging technologies.

e.  Skilled in providing educational instruction to staff members with various educational backgrounds.

f.  Assist in survey preparation for Joint Commission, Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, AORN and VA requirements.

g.  Leads initiatives to use Lean Six Sigma Principles and continuous Quality Assurance Programs.
