Position description
In the Department of Nursing Research, the RN Study Coordinator Day BSN is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care and research participant/family education in clinical and research settings. The RN is responsible for managing and/or participating in all phases of the research process. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the research participant and family, as appropriate. The American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Care and Professional Performance provide a basis for practice. The RN understands and advocates for human research subject rights.

Work is primarily self-directed with guidance from the principal investigator(s). The RN participates in designing, organizing, and monitoring protocols; assists with grant applications, abstracts, posters, and manuscripts; and plans for and participates in staff education in areas where protocols will be carried out. The RN assesses research participants, investigates abnormal patterns of adverse events and laboratory results, and reports appropriately. The RN interacts with other departments to develop systems/procedures for coordinating phases of study protocols that comply with regulatory laws and institutional guidelines for study data collection, storage, retrieval, and participant medical tests and procedures.

This RN Study Coordinator position will job share between two .5FTE RNs to fulfill the responsibilities of a 1.0FTE employee.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Bachelor's degree Nursing program. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Any additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
Additional qualifications
This role prefers one of the following experiences:
  • Two years acute care RN experience
  • Two years RN Study Coordinator experience
  • One year ICU RN experience
Works flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, and on-call weekend coverage as needed (see schedule details). Collects, compares, sorts, and prioritizes information to be used in the decision-making process for groups of patients and employees. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing with extensive knowledge of research study design, development, and disease process is preferred. Certification from an appropriate accredited certifying body (e.g. ACRP or SOCRA) is preferred.

Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills. Must be able to use critical thinking skills. Must
be able to acquire knowledge and proficiency in data management, statistical methods, computer-related systems and hardware, and software configurations are preferred at onset, but must be acquired within one year of acceptance. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the clinical and/or research settings.
License or certification
Current Minnesota RN license is required. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $29.66 per hour. Shift differential would apply for qualifying hours worked.

Schedule details
Typically 8-hour shifts. Shifts including days and evenings to be expected during recruitment phase of a particular research study. Most of the hours would be between 7 am and 11 pm. Shifts may exceed 8-hours in order to meet the needs of a particular research study. Shift differential would apply to qualifying hours worked. Holidays are not expected. 1.0FTE would be considered.
Weekend schedule
On-call weekend coverage as needed to support the research study. Shift differential would apply to qualifying hours worked.
