Birth Cohort Study

The Born in Guangzhou Cohort Study (BIGCS) is a key research initiative in Guangzhou City. When it reaches its goal of enrolling 30,000 mother/infant pairs it will be the largest parent-child biobank in China. At the same time, BIGCS is also using epidemiological methods to identify and explore the impacts of main social, economic, cultural, biological, and environmental factors on the health of women and children over the next 20 years in the Guangzhou. This project will provide scientific basis for prevention of adverse pregnancy outcomes and childhood diseases as well as for the development of relevant medical guidelines and policies.

Born in Guangzhou Cohort Study has become an important platform for international academic exchange and cooperation in our medical center, to establish strategic partnerships with a number of world-class organizations and universities such as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, university of Oxford, etc. Each year, we organize more than 30 times of academic exchange with University of Oxford, University of Birmingham, University of British Columbia and the University of Hong Kong, conducting a regular academic exchange.

There are two positions:

1.Senior Research Fellow:

The successful candidate will work in The Born in Guangzhou Cohort Study Department, Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center.

  • Ÿ  Research project management, including proposal of new research projects, methodology design, statistical analysis and evaluation
  • Ÿ  Scientific analytical writing in collaborating with team
  • Ÿ  Assistance with the reception of international visitors and collaborators as well as international academic conferences

2.Research Fellow:

The successful candidate will work in The Born in Guangzhou Cohort Study Department, Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center.

  • Ÿ  Scientific analytical writing in collaborating with team
  • Ÿ  Statistical analysis support to team
  • Ÿ  Assistance on questionnaire design and validation of maternal and children’s health assessment
  • Ÿ  Recruitment support of women of pregnancy to the birth cohort research and children’s development assessment


Bio-medical Data Science

The Clinical Data Center (Intelligent Medical Research Center) was established based on the belief in ‘big data will rebuild the future of medicine’. Taking advantage of big data, we focus on health data mining and development of Auxiliary diagnostic products using artificial intelligence.

They are a team with professionals in bio-medical data science, computer science and related fields. The Clinical Data Center (Intelligent Medical Research Center) includes database management group, case-cohort management group, bio-medicine statistical analysis group, machine-learning and artificial intelligence group etc. There are 2 postdoctoral researchers, 1 doctoral and 7 master graduates with average age of 29 years in this research team. Young, passionate and with strong execution are as synonyms for them.

These are positions for experienced data scientists with strong backgrounds in Machine Learning, Mathematics, Health Statistics, and Epidemiology.

Work as a research associate in biomedical data science focused on technical services that support research and development using biomedical data.

Leverage bioinformatics software and platforms to solve problems and analyze data and apply expertise in advanced analytics, working with industry leading computing technologists and data scientists who solve large scale, complex, and challenging business problems across the public and private sectors.

Design and develop data architecture and schemas to address research problems, perform analysis, and provide solutions to the problem with Data-driven products.

Develop machine learning, data mining, and statistical and graph based algorithms designed to analyze massive data sets and ensure the proper implementation and usage of algorithms.

Work independently and in teams, develop and maintain accurate laboratory records, and author standard operating procedures, write papers, and technical reviews. This position is located in Guangzhou, China.


Requirements

Birth Cohort Study

1.Senior Research Fellow: 

  • Ÿ   Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience/qualification in Medicine/ Statistics /Epidemiology
  • Ÿ   Minimum of 5 years research experiences and 10 publications in the area of women and children’s health
  • Ÿ   Sound working knowledge with SAS and/or R software
  • Ÿ   Previous experience in data processing, including data collection, manipulation, data analysis, and quality control
  • Ÿ   Experience in research project management, including proposal of new research projects, methodology design, statistical analysis and evaluation
  • Ÿ   Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Ÿ   Positive approach to teamwork, and a pro-active attitude


2.Research Fellow:   

      Essential qualifications and experience

  • Ÿ  Master and above or equivalent professional experience/qualification in Medicine /Statistics /Epidemiology
  • Ÿ  Sound working knowledge with SAS and/or R software
  • Ÿ  Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Ÿ  Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ÿ  Positive approach to teamwork, and a pro-active attitude

      Desirable qualifications and experience

  •   Previous experience of peer-reviewed publications 

  

Bio-medical Data Science

      Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D or Master or equivalent degree in Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Health Statistics, Epidemiology, or Computer Science related
  • Experience with R and designing and implementing machine learning, data mining, statistics, and graph algorithms
  • Experience with Linux systems and programming using languages, including Python, Perl, and Java, C++, and C#
  • Ability to explain and present complex scientific concepts orally and in writing
  • Ability to function independently with limited oversight
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and be flexible to meet evolving client needs
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

      Additional Qualifications

  •  Experience with publishing articles in peer reviewed publications
  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
  • PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field preferred
