Position description

In the supplemental immunization nurse role, the nurse will supplement regular nurse staffing by providing vaccinations in the Employee and Community Health areas during influenza season which may include Community Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, Family Medicine, and Primary Care Internal Medicine at six possible primary care locations. This nurse would support the ECH Saturday influenza/vaccination clinics, walk-in clinics at various locations in Rochester and Kasson and the administration of influenza vaccinations in Rochester area schools. This nurse role is time limited to influenza season which we anticipate would be September through February and supplemental hours will be worked during this time. Orientation and training provided annually prior to the start of influenza season (July, August or September depending on experience). Expectations are that employees in this role are available to work several scheduled shifts during the week, shifts until 7 p.m., and multiple Saturdays. Job requirements may be subject to change as the Immunization Program strives to meet the needs of patients and families. Flu clinic orientation includes working a minimum of a .6 FTE for three weeks. New nursing staff to Mayo will be required to attend central nursing orientation (full-time).


Student or Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g. some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.

Additional qualifications

Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the clinical and/or research settings. Keyboarding skills, and ability to work independently as well as in a group. One year LPN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing preferred.

License or certification

Must obtain prior to start date:

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

We will only accept certificates of course completion from the following providers:
  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Military Training Network
Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $19.49 per hour.
