The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine (SOM) and the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute are excited to announce an opening for a tenure-track junior level faculty position (MD/PhD, MD, or PhD) in cancer biology with an emphasis on preclinical and translational science, highlighting regulation by the tumor immune microenvironment focusing on melanoma.
Assistant Professor #IRC56583: Tumor-host interactions regulate all aspects of solid tumor development, and impact response to therapy. We seek applications from junior scientists developing exciting research programs investigating tumor-host interactions and immune modulation in melanoma using relevant in vivo model systems. This tenure track position will be within the departments of Cell, Developmental & Cancer Biology (www.ohsu.edu/cdcb) and Dermatology.
For MD or MD/PhD applicants, this position will be a joint appointment as a cutaneous oncologist in dermatology with rank commensurate with experience in the development and performance of clinical trials, immuno-oncology publications, and a record of successful collaboration. Recruited investigators will be expected to interact with a collaborative group of clinicians, basic scientists and clinician/scientists.
The Cell, Developmental & Cancer Biology department (CDCB) is a multidisciplinary department with a common thread of understanding human disease from a tissue/developmental biology perspective. With tumor-host interactions being recognized as playing critical roles in regulating all aspects of cancer progression and response to therapy, candidates with research programs addressing aspects of the tumor microenvironment (TME), tumor cell-extrinsic biology and/or oriented around clinically-relevant questions will be given priority. Investigators utilizing mouse models of melanoma development are especially encouraged. Applicants should have completed a successful post-doctoral fellowship and have a strong track record in securing competitive extramural funding.
The Dermatology department has a multi-disciplinary team of dermatologists, with specialists in a broad range of skin-related disorders, including dermatopathology and clinical trials units. Our focus is on treatment, surveillance, and clinical trials for patients with dermatologic disorders, including early stage melanoma with expertise in monitoring atypical nevi via comprehensive skin exams and state-of-the- art photography. Unique to our program is a research cohort, the Melanoma Community Registry, and a self-monitoring tool, the Mole Mapper phone app.
Highly competitive recruitment packages are available for collaborative Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. faculty at the Assistant Professor level. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will remain open until positions are filled. Please apply online at www.OHSUjobs.com, reference IRC56583. Curriculum vitae (CV), one-page research description with relevant publications, and names/contact information for at least three professional references, should be uploaded with the application.
